Rhythmic ladies flaunt maturity
BENIDORM (ESP) FIG Office, October 4, 2008: After the Beijing Olympic Games, the FIG released a statistics regarding the average age of young women participating in Rhythmic Gymnastic competitions. The figures clearly show that this average has increased significantly since 1993, the year of the World Championships which took place close to Benidorm, in Alicante.
At that time, the 140 gymnasts involved showed a total average age of 16.68 year as opposed to the 19.95 year average of 2008.
Indeed, a progression in the age of gymnasts has been noted not only at the Olympic Games, but also in world championship events. Specialists of the discipline unanimously hail the development, knowing full well that greater maturity favours artistic and choreographic expression.
And no one’s complaining! Especially not the gymnasts who, at 20, no longer blush when asked their age!
